System Features: Full List

HomeCare System

REMOTE:
  • Image
  • Roughly the size of a television remote, possibly slightly smaller.
  • Curved edges and corners to give better ergonomics.
  • Has large buttons that are easy to press and labelled clearly. The design is not too cluttered.
  • The alarm button at the top is operated by a press and twist motion to prevent it from being activated accidentally.
  • Has a strap attached for the user to wear around their neck so they have the alarm on them at all times.
  • Speaker at the base of the remote alerts user to items on the television screen requiring their attention.
  • Remote also has a vibrate function for the hard of hearing.
MENUS:
  • Menu system on the television allows for the following operations:
    • Ordering Shopping
    • Operation of Lights, Heating, Appliances and Curtains: Ability to turn these on and off.
  • These menus are clear and simple to use. The text is large size and not too cluttered.
  • The menus are operated with four simple buttons for direction and one to select an option.
  • Each option has a relevant picture for the user in case they cannot read the text.
  • Each menu has an option for the user to return to the main menu.
  • All navigation options are in the side bar, with a unified theme throughout. The main window contains the options for the current operation.
SENSORS:
  • Sensors around the home to alert the User and the Emergency Contact in one of the following situations:
    • Fire (Heat and Smoke Sensors) - Alerts Emergency Services
    • Carbon Monoxide - Alerts Emergency Contact and User
    • Motion - If a user falls and is unable to move, motion sensors detect the lack of movement and alert the Emergency Contact.
  • Button at the front door allows user to deactivate the Motion Sensors when they leave the house.
I've tried to compile a list of every feature that our system has, with every operation capable with it. I'm probably going to forget things, so feel free to add to it as neccessary. It is important that we use this list and the prototype video/screens to evaluate the prototype in character as our personas. If everyone could upload their screens to the Inspiration Tray, then we all know what we're dealing with. We cannot start to redesign until we evaluate. I know we were going to do some of this as a video, but it's important to do it in a format we can get at quickly such as the questions I provided a few posts ago. If we can all do this for our personas ASAP, redesign is possible.

I think we talked about having a pressure sensor though I can't quite remember what for. I think it was to do with if the person has an accident and falls over or something.
